Gelatin Silver

Due: 1/29

  • 5 high quality gelatin silver prints
  • Please have at least four of the images be new work, shot or (otherwise created) for this class
  • Negatives can be generated from film, digital capture, or digital composites
  • Negatives should be in the range of 8x10 (or slightly smaller to fit the paper), at least 300 dpi
  • The prints should be properly washed, dried and pressed flat

Ilford Gallerie Fiber based Graded Paper, Grade #2, glossy. Note that this paper is different than the multicontrast paper you have likely used in the darkroom, when printing film negatives. Graded paper is generally required for printing with digital negatives.

Things to bring, have on hand

Ideas, innovations, images, projects...

A notebook to write ideas, jot down processes

Capture Devices:

Any kind of camera, film, digital, or pinhole that can capture an image that can be downloaded or scanned into Photoshop

Storage Devices:

Some way to back-up your work beyond the capacities of the computer desktop or class server, neither of which is secure. E.g., thumb drive, firewire drive, etc.

Dark Bag:

The large heavy black plastic bags that come with darkroom paper are excellent. Use to shield your coated papers from the light.

Apron

Nitrile or Latex gloves. Medical style gloves easiest to use.

Wear older clothes
