  • Bring paper for coating, images to create digital negatives.

Class sessions: 4/2, 4/7, 4/9

  • Bring digital images for use as transfer

Class sessions: 4/9, 4/14, 4/16

Project II

Use any process (or combination of processes) from the course to create a meaningful and coherent group of images. A unifying theme or concept is recommended–articulate this through the process(es).

Project 2 should be distinctly varied from project 1

Preliminary critique 1, 4/16
Preliminary critique 2, 4/23
Project Due (latest date): 4/30

Monday, March 10, 2014

Project 1

Create a coherent group of images that creatively explores one of the processes we have covered thus far. The project should stretch into a more in-depth exploration of image and process. How will the process, the physical aspects of the prints, and the particular imagery support some sort of idea or concept? The project should move beyond first-attempt experiments. See how you can refine the processes creatively. Up to you!

Processes:

  • Digital negatives for gelatin silver
  • Salt printing
  • Chemigrams/chemilumins
  • Cyanotype
  • Vandyke brown print*
Possible points of departure for further inspiration:
  • Explore alternative substrates...other papers, fabrics, sizes
  • Explore extended imagery—joiners, photo-objects
  • Explore possible mix-media approaches...combine photos with collage, drawing, etc.
  • Combining methods. (E.g. liquid light gelatin silver emulsion combined with cyanotype)

Touchstones:

3/19 Preliminary critique
4/7 Final critique
